(I am very pleased that my book The Geomagnetic Field and ...)
I am very pleased that my book The Geomagnetic Field and Life is being published in English in the United States. Thanks to the initiative of Plenum Press, a publishing hause that is widely known in all countries, I have a great new opportunity to make direct contact with friends throughout the world. My book on the geomagnetic field can be regarded as an abstraction, whose purpose is to provide a better picture and understanding of the world araund us, its main driving forces, and factors, to help us to know ourselves, and to proceed further. The essence of the abstraction is that in treating the problern I have deliberately ignored the diverse effects of various extemal factors on living organisms and have confined myself to an analysis of the effect of the GMF. This approach allows me to go one step further-to draw various conclusions and propose theories that rnight bring us closer to a proper understanding of the true nature of the phenomena. Philosophers have long been aware that by such abstract thinking we can deterrnine the nature of phenomena more reliably, completely, and comprehensively, penetrate to the very core of the observed effects, and perceive the depth of their interrelations.

(The scientific study of psychic phenomena has a long hist...)
The scientific study of psychic phenomena has a long history, going back more than a century to the first psychical research societies of London. Though the evidence produced has often been in- conclusive-or regarded as such by a skeptical scientific community-increasing numbers of scientists now regard the study of psychic phenomena as a legitimate pursuit. Indeed some scientists are convinced that telekinesis and sightless reading are in fact actual manifestations of unusual human capacities. Parapsychology and Contemporary Science, written by two leading Soviet scientists, examines the diverse phenomena that are frequently labeled paranormal. The authors explore the relationships among psychology, psycho-energetics, and para- psychology, linking bio-energetics with both acupuncture and psychoanalysis in the process. They review psychological experiments dealing with paranormal phenomena-psychokinesis, communication between man and plants, bio-informational contacts at a distance-and discuss parapsychology and the problems of psychology. And they offer scientific insight on the subject of psi- phenomena with an in-depth examination of the fundamentals of natural science and parapsychology. A work sure to generate much interest, Parapsychology and Contemporary Science will be requisite reading for those concerned with the fields of parapsychology, humanistic psychology, and experimental psychology.
