Alexander Semenovich Arkhangelsky was born on July 12, 1854 in Penza, Russian Federation. His father Semyon Kuzmich Arkhangelsky was a teacher at the Penza Seminary. After he graduated from the Gorygoretsky Agricultural Institute and later became a priest.
Education
Alexander Semenovich received his primary education at the Penza Theological School and the Penza Theological Seminary, from the fifth grade of which he entered the historical and philological faculty of the Kazan University.

Until 1882 Alexander Semenovich taught in Simbir gymnasium. Since 1882 lecturer at Kazan university. In 1894-1896 he studied teaching Slavic Philology in Vienna. Since 1904 a member of АН at the Department of Russian language and literature. Since 1908 inspector of classes of the Elizabethan Institute in Saint Petersburg. Alexander Semenovich Arkhangelsky retired in the same year after a short period of time.
