Graduated from the United States Naval Academy, 1848.
Served with Coast Survey, 1851-1852. Served in ship J. P. Kennedy in expedition to North Pacific and China Seas as acting Lieutenant, 1853. Assigned to John Hancock at Hong Kong, 1854.
Assigned to Philadelphia Navy Yard, 1855-1857.
Assigned to ship Powhatan of East India Squadron, 1857-1860, resigned to engaged in business in Japan. One of 1st American importers of Japanese tea.
Returned to the United States, 1861, arrested as Southern sympathizer. Became part owner firm Habersham & Barrett, importers and dealers in teas and East Indian goods, Baltimore, 1865.
Engaged in coffee and canned goods brokerage business, 1870-1871-1883.
