Little is known about his life and career. Alexander Yakovlevich Bakulin was a merchant, whose main passion was literature. In the 40s, because of the fire that devastated Yelets, he became bankrupt. In the 1850s, Alexander Yakovlevich kept a mill in Uman´, then rented estates in the Tambov and Vladimir regions, and later lived with his daughters in Moscow.
Alexander Yakovlevich Bakulin wrote poems, novels, dramas, but he considered himself particularly strong in fables.
Alexander Yakovlevich Bakulin was the grandfather of the poet V.Y. Bryusov.
