Chantron was a pupil of François-Édouard Picot, Tony Robert-Fleury and William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
Alexandre-Jacques Chantron began his artistic career by painting genre and history scenes, portraits and still-life (flowers), later painting nudes in the style of Bouguereau. He entered the Paris Salon in 1877 with a religious subject, and gained an honorable mention in 1893. In addition, he exhibited "Fleurs de printemps" at the Salon in 1895.
Chantron died in 1918 in Nantes, France and was buried at the Cimetière Miséricorde, Nantes, France.
