Career
He moved to Steaua București in the winter of 2011, after five seasons with Football Club Brașov. Chipciu helped Steaua to Union of European Football Associations Europa League success and to their first title in more than half a decade within two years of joining them. Chipciu started his football career in 2001 at the youth squad of CF Brăila and Sporting Pitești, from 2004 to 2006.
After that he moved to Football Club Brașov.
Football Club Brașov
At the age of just 18 he made the breakthrough in the first squad, scoring 4 goals in his first year with Football Club Brașov. But, after the teams pretentions grew, wanting the promotion to the Liga I, he got less play time.
= Loan to Forex Brașov and Brăila Foreign the first half of the 2008-2009 season he was loaned out to Liga II side Forex Brașov. In the second half of the season he went to Liga III side CF Brăila to gain experience.
Back at now, Liga I side, Football Club Brașov, Chipciu again got little playing time in the first season.
In the 2010-2011 season he exploded, being one of the best players of Football Club Brașov and attracting the attention of Romanian giants Steaua București and Dinamo București. He eventually choose to remain at Football Club Brașov, signing a new contract that will keep him at the team until 2015. He had a great start to the 2011-2012 season, scoring two very important goals in the first three games.
Steaua București
On 21 December 2011, Steaua București signed him for a transfer fee of €1,2m.
The player penned a five-year contract with the club The transfer became official on 25 January, when the transfer window was declared opened.
On 31 March, Chicpiu scored his first goal for Steaua to bing home a 1–1 draw from Pandurii Târgu Jiu. On 7 May, he was red-carded in the match against Concordia Chiajna, after a foul against the Brazilian full back Guilherme.
In the autumn of 2012 Chipciu helped Steaua Bucharest qualify from the Union of European Football Associations Europa League group stage, after defeating teams like VfB Stuttgart, Molde FK and Football Club Copenhagen.
Subsequently Steaua defeated AFC Ajax on penalty shoot-outs, before losing in the last 16 against Chelsea Football Club with 3–2 on aggregate. On May 10, 2013, in the one of the last matches of the 2012-2013 season, Alexandru Chipciu suffered an injury playing against Dinamo Bucharest and he was subsequently sidelined for 5 months after a fractured tibia. This was his first championship title.
Chipciu made his debut for the Romania U-17 side in a match against Serbia U-17 on 29 March 2006.
He also played for Romania U-19. He made his debut for the senior team in 2011 in a match against San Marino.
Chipciu scored his first senior international goal in a friendly away match against Greece on 15 November 2011. The match was played in Austria despite Greece being given "home advantage".
