Alfred migrated to New York, United States when a youth, and shortly after studied architecture in the office of Frederick Diaper, one of the charter members of the American Institute of Architects.
As national Secretary Alfred served in intermittent periods over a number of years, from 1874 to 1877; 1881-1983; and 1887 to 1890. He was prominently known in New York, United States one of the founders and a life member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a member of several professional and cultural organizations, and the recipient of many honors.
For many years he was a member of the New York Chapter and elected a Fellow of the Institute in 1861, Mr. Bloor devoted much of his time and attention to Institute matters.
