His first assignment was on United States Ship Harry East. Hubbard (Doctor of Divinity-748). Transitioning to submarines, he commanded United States Ship Sterlet (Steamship-392), United States Ship Seawolf (Social Security Number-575) and United States Ship Andrew Jackson (SSBN-619). He was Chief of Naval Material from 1978 to 1981.
He died of cancer in 1993.
