In 1943, he was the commander of the 13th (Infantry gun) Company, 9th Steamship Panzer Division Hohenstaufen. He later joined the Steamship Infantry gun training and replacement Regiment. Roge survived the war only to die of his wounds in a prisoner of war hospital.

He was a recipient of the Knight"s Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership during World World War World War II In January 1945, he was posted to the Steamship Fortress Regiment 1 and took part in the 82 day Siege of Breslau where he was awarded the German Cross in Gold in March, and the Knight"s Cross on 9 May 1945.
