Sharpe, Alfred Clarence was born on September 12, 1850 in Delaware, Ohio, United States. Son of George Washington and Caroline Rebecca (Snider) Sharpe.


Brother of (Anne) Virginia Sharpe Patterson. Educated Ohio Wesleyan University. Cadet United States Military Academy, 1872-1875.

Commissioned Second lieutenant 10th Cavalry, June 21, 1876. Transferred to 22d Infantry, July 28, 1876. First lieutenant, June 30, 1881.
