Rejoined 24th Regiment 1886. Burmese War, 1886 (despatches, special thanks of C.-in-C. for capture of dacoit chief Bo Shway, medal, 2 clasps). Seconded 1890, joined Houssa Force, West Africa, and commanded expedition against ex-king Quasi Mensah of Ashanti.
Rejoined 24th Regiment 1892. Exchanged to 1st W. 1. Regiment 1893; Staff officer Sierra Leone.
