Practiced, Indianapolis, since 1877. Partner with John L. Griffiths for 25 years. Vice president Citizens’ Gas Company Originator of substitute for municipal ownership of public utilities, adopted by Consumers’ Natural Gas Company, 1887, resisting all attacks for 15 years until natural gas was exhausted, saving the city $1,000,000 a year.
Same plan applied to supply artificial gas through Citizens’ Gas Company, since 1905, reducing price to 55c per 1,000 cubic feet, and as low as 45c to large consumers.
Plan provides for self-perpetuating board of trustees to vote stock, and eliminates politics and stock manipulation.
