Educated Jefferson College, Pennsylvania Entered Union army, August 1862 as captain Company A 155th Pennsylvania vols. Promoted to major, lieutenant colonel and colonel. Bvtd. brigadier general and major general of vols.
Received congressional medal of honor for gallant conduct. Major general National Guard of Pennsylvania for 7 years.
Admitted to bar, 1861. District attorney Allegheny Company, Pennsylvania, 3 years. Has served in select councils, Pittsburgh.
Now in third term as member of the board of mgrs., National Home for Disabled Soldiers.
