Studied at University of Oxford. Art education: Scholarship at South Kensington School of Art in 1877. Then pupil of Albert Moore for about four years.
Exhibited pictures early in the eighties, and still a constant exhibitor in London and provincial galleries. Art critic of the Globe, 1893-1908. Stage-managed Faddimir, 1889, first production of Adrian Ross and F. O. Carr.
In 1891 first production in England of Ibsen’s Rosmersholm, and same year, John Todliunter’s Sicilian Idyll, and Poison Flower, all at Vaudeville.
