Unofficially attached to the Art Library, South Kensington Museum, 1874-1876. Represented the department at the Munich International Exhibition, 1876, and at Brussels, 1880. Acted as Secretary to Mr.
Edward Harrison, Companion of the Bath, on a Foreign Office Commission to investigate the finances of Turkey, 1878, residing at Constantinople for a year.
Appointed in 18S0 by the Committee of Council on Education to proceed to Russia and to represent the department and the South Kensington Museum in the collection of objects illustrative of Russian Art, remaining a year in Russia. Appointed Superintendent of the Music Division and of the Retrospective Music Exhibition of the International Inventions and Music Exhibition, 1885, and of the Picture Galleries, India and Colonial Exhibition, 1887.
Cantor Lecturer, Society of Arts, 1906. Foreign many years in charge of Lord Brassey’s museum and collections, and superintended the erection and arrangement of his Indian Room and Museum in Park Lane.
Has travelled largely throughout the greater part of Europe and the East.
