Academic education, Jamestown and Randolph, New York. Private to major 154th New York Vols., 1862-1865. Wounded at Chancellorsville.

Admitted to New York bar, 1866. Removed to Ottawa, Kansas, 1869.

Career

Mayor of Ottawa, 1878-1881. Member Kansas Senate, 1881-1883. Judge District Court, 4th Judicial District, 1885-1897.

Member Kansas House of Representatives, 1905-1906. United States senator to fill unexpired term (1906-1907) of J. R. Burton, resigned. Justice Supreme Court of the Kansas, September, since 1907.
