After occupying responsible positions with one or two leading houses, became associated with Gibbs Bright, and Company, Melbourne, and in 1883 left for Adelaide to open a branch of the firm there, where he remained until 1888. Was President of the Chamber of Commerce, Adelaide. Twice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Sydney.
Is a Director of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, and Chairman of the Board.
Chairman of the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Company, and of the Sydney Hydraulic Power Company. Member of Legislative Council of New South Wales since 1900. Resident partner in the firm of Gibbs, Bright, and Company since 18S8.
