On January 1, 2008 Molaei was banned from playing professional football for two years following doping allegations, but later the suspension was shortened to one year. He had two good seasons with Mes but the Iranian federation charged him with dopping issue and banned him of playing for two years.He moved to Sepahan but was unable to play for them in his first season.
