Member of Legislative Assembly Gippsland North electorate, 1880-1900. Resigned to enter first Federal Parliament. Took office as President of Board of Land and Works, Commissioner of Crown Lands and Survey, and Minister of Agriculture in Munro Government, 1890, and retained these offices until 1891, when he took up, instead, portfolio of Chief Secretary, which he relinquished on defeat of Ministry, 1893.
Joined Sir (then Mr. ) George Turner’s Administration, without portfolio, 1894. Retired from Ministry, 1898.
