Claxton, Allen Enes was born on October 1, 1901 in Hinsdale, Illinois, United States. Son of Allen Enes and Mary Jane (Casey) Claxton.


Bachelor of Science, University Illinois, 1923. Bachelor of Sacred Theology, Boston University, 1926. Postgraduate Harvard, 1926-1928, Columbia, 1928-1930.

Doctor of Humane Letters (honorary), Long Island U., 1965.


Ordained to ministry Methodist Episcopal Church, 1922. Pastor Broadway Temple, New York City since 1940. Director religious programs and morning devotions over radio stations since 1932.

Weekly speaker over station WJZ and coast-to-coast ABC network under auspices National Council Churches Christ United States of America, since 1942, Mutual network, since 1950. Dumont television network, since 1951. Visiting professor, special lecturer Biblical Seminary New York, 1960-1963.
