Alper, Allen Myron was born on October 23, 1932 in New York City. Son of Joseph and Pauline (Frohlich) Alper.

Senior mineralogist Corning Glass Works, New York, 1957-1959, research mineralogist, 1959-1962, manager ceramic research, senior research associate, 1962-1969. With GTE Sylvania Inc. division Sylvania Inc., Towanda, Pennsylvania, since 1969, chief engineer, 1971-1972, director research and engineering, 1972-1978, manager operations, from 1978. Now president GTE Walmet, Royal Oak, Michigan.

Member Pennsylvania Gov's Advisory Panel on Materials, since 1971. Chairman advisory committee Materials Research Laboratory, Pennsylvania State University. Member adhoc advisory committee Phase Equilibria Data Center, 1983.
