Educated at Wrexham, Wales, Ilkley, Yorkshire, Manchester Grammar School and University of Berlin. Certificate as able seaman in sail. Traveled extensively, 1887-1897.
Visited India, Australia, British, French and Spanish West Indies and South.America.
Lecturer at Cornell Univercity, 1899, University of Chicago, 1900, Lowell Institute, Boston, 1901-1902. Spent 1902-1904 in Far East as correspondent of the London Times, and as colonial commissioner University of Chicago, preparing’ report on colonial administration England, France, Holland and United States in that part of the world.
Educated at Manchester Grammar School and the University of Berlin, Alleyne Ireland visited Australia, Canada, India, Burma, the Malay Peninsula, Java, Borneo, French Indo-China, the Philippines, the West Indies and British Guiana. In 1902–1904 for the Times of London he wrote twelve articles on British colonial administration in the tropics. He lectured at Cornell University, the University of Chicago and the Lowell Institute and was on the staff of the New York World.
Served under General Leonard Wood in Mindanao, against Sultan of Taraca, 1904. Traveled in Europe and Canada, 1908-1910.
