He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler who played for Odisha. He was born in Korant. Jena made his first-class debut during the 1965-1966 season, against Bihar, scoring 3 and 2 not out in an Odisha victory.
Jena"s second and final first-class appearance followed five seasons later, though once again he was unable to make it past three runs with the battalion
