Aloys Ander was born August 10, 1824, Libice nad Doubravou, Czech Republic.
He appeared for the first time on October 22, 1845, as Stradella in the Vienna court opera of that name, though with no previous experience of the boards whatever. His success was complete and decided his course for life, and that single night raised him from a simple clerk to the rank of a "primo tenore assoluto." He was engaged in folk-opera till 1864. His principal parts were Lohengrin, Johann of Leyden, Arnold (in Tell).
