Messer, Alpha was born in 1842 in Rochester, Vermont, United States. Son of Lyman and Mary (Morse) Messer.

Education

Academic education at Barre, Vermont. Taught school, 1860-1871. Since then engaged in general farming.

Career

Became master Vermont State Grange, Patrons of Husbandry, 1886-1895. Lecturer National Grange, 1893-1899. Began publication of The Patron’s Rural, 1882, merged into Rural Vermonter, 1886, and that in turn consolidated with Vermont Watchman, 1888.

Been member of editorial staff New England Farmer and Grange Homes, since 1889. Member Vermont State Board of Agriculture and Cattle Commission, 1896-1898. Home: Rochester, Vt.
