Snow, Alva Edson was born on October 13, 1860 in at Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, United States. Son of Harvey and Bridget (Marron) Snow.


Bachelor of Arts, Tufts College, 1887. Harvard Law School, 1887-1889.


Admitted to Massachusetts bar, 1889. Removed to San Francisco same year. To Fresno, 1891; in practice as Snow & Freeman, 1893-1813, now alone.

Deputy district attorney, Fresno Company, California, 1893-1895, district attorney, 1895-1899. Member board of trustees City of Fresno, 1909-1912. Appointed mayor of Fresno for unexpired term, May, 1912, and elected to same office, April, 1913, for term 1913-1917.


Member California State Bar Association, Fresno County Bar Association. Member Delta Upsilon. Mason.; Clubs: University, Elks, Commercial, Riverside Country.

Instituted first municipal “free” market in California, September, 1912.
