Career
He is the Member of Parliament for the Consistency of North Eleuthera. Smith obtained a degree in Education from the University of Miami, and subsequently spent 24 years as a teacher and a trustee of the Bahamas Union of Teachers. In 1997 he was elected into the House of Assembly, as Member of Parliament for the Consistency of North Eleuthera and reelected as the official leader of the Free National Movement in Parliament in 2002.
Following the national elections in May 2007, Smith was appointed as Speaker of the House of Assembly by the new FNM led Government.
