During World World War II, he served as a major in the United States Army. Battles Reis took part in include the Battle of Château-Thierry, the Battle of Saint-Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. He died on January 24, 1956 in Madison, Wisconsin and is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Reis was elected to the Assembly in 1926 and 1928 and to the Senate in 1932.
Later, he became a judge on the Wisconsin Circuit Court. He was a Republican.
