Alvin Whitehead Roper, American pianist.


Roper, Alvin Whitehead was born on October 23, 1883 in near Wentzville, Missouri, United States. Son of Review William Henry and Sophronia Annie (Scruggs) Roper.


Preparatory education, Pritchett Institute, Glasgow, Missouri, and Central College, Fayette, Missouri. Bachelor of Arts, Southwestern U., Georgetown, Texas, 1902. Studied music, 12 years, American teachers.


Began study of piano at age of 7. Debut, 1903; made tour of the world, 1913. Played in every state in the United States and in Canada.

Served as piano soloist for World’s S.S. Convention, World’s Congress against Alcoholism, 3 International S.S. convs. Also for over 400 state and district convs. and abt. 100 evangelistic campaigns.

Appeared in nearly 500 recitals and concerts. Pianist Winona Lake, Indiana, 10 summer seasons. Widely recognized for improvisations and as interpreter of hymns.


The separation of church and state has guaranteed the diversity of religious expressions and the freedom to worship God according to each person’s conscience. However, separation of church and state permit interaction.


Every Church member should be trusted with responsibilities. In building the local Methodist groups or 'societies', they should be trained to maintain the meetings and give pastoral care and challenge to the members.
