Fought in 72 battles and minor engagements, including capture of Knoxville, Grant’s campaign of the Wilderness, Sheridan’s campaigns of the Shenandoah Valley, the siege of Richmond and service against Confederation Indians in Indiana Territory. Had 3 horses shot in action.
