Am Ano Tameyuki graduated from Tokyo University in 1882.
He assisted Marquis Shigenobu Okuma in founding the Tokyo Semmon Gakko, which was the predecessor of Waseda University. Elected a member of the House of Representatives in 1890. Later was conferred the degree of L.L.D., appointed professor at Waseda University and Dean of its Commercial Department. Was also director and editor-in-chief of the Tokyo Keizai Shirapo, an economic journal. A follower of the doctrine of John Stuart Mill, he promoted the cause of economic liberalism.
