Amako Tsunehisa was born in 1458.
The Amakos branched out from the Uta-Genji Family. They became prosperous after Mochihisa was made Lord of Izumo (Shimane Prefecture) early in the Muromachi Period. After the civil war of Onin-noran, Tsune- hisa stabilized Izumo and, in 1508, extended his territory to Bingo Province (Hiro-shima Prefecture). He then competed with Yoshioki Ouchi, then the greatest warlord in Chu,Koku, or western Honshu, for domination of that part of Japan. He annexed Oki Island, Inaba and Hoki Provinces along the Japan Sea coast.
