She paved the way for the success of Donna Tartt"s first novel, The Secret History, by creating such media hype and buzz for creating a bidding war and demanding a huge advance (United States dollar$450,000) for a first time novelist. Tartt"s novel was brought to her by fellow Bennington alum Bret Easton Ellis. Among others, Urban represents Katherine Boo, Dominique Browning, Peter Carey, East.L. Doctorow, Jennifer Egan, Dexter Filkins, Richard Ford, Alan Furst, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Walter Isaacson, Kazuo Ishiguro, Mary Karr, Lawrence Lessig, Cormac McCarthy, Jay McInerney, Toni Morrison, Haruki Murakami, Michael Pollan, Anna Quindlen, Atticus Lish, and Mona Simpson.
Urban has been married to The New Yorker staff writer Ken Auletta since 1977.
They have one adult daughter, Kate.
