Prior to modeling, he studied to be a carpenter.
He was known for appearing in dozens of ad campaigns for Armani and Hugo Boss. He also practiced surfing, boxing, and hockey as sports and planned to volunteer for the United States Navy. He began modeling at the age of 17, moving to New York in 2002.
Olsen appeared in many print ads and a few runway shows and a few fashion videos.
At time of death he was represented by the Click Management modeling agency. He was best known for his 2007 Armani Exchange ads with Adriana Lima.
He also worked for numerous other brands such as TNT, Hugo Boss, Doctorate&G, Nautica, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Giorgio Armani Extreme Attitude among others He also did the catwalk on shows by Alexandre Herchcovitch and Kim Jones among others

Olsen died on April 22, 2010, at the age of 24.
He was discovered hanged, in his apartment in New York City. According to police reports, it was a suicide.
