Amos Dambe educated at Dombodema, Rhodesia, at South Africa’s Tiger Kloof Institution, Vriburg, and then at the Tati Training Institution. He qualified as a teacher at Adams College, Natal.
He taught at Dombodema and Serowe before becoming headmaster of the Tati Training Institution. In the 1939-1945 war he served with the High Commission Territories Corps in the British 8th Army in the Middle East and became a sergeant. On his return to teaching he helped to expand the Teachers’ Association and was elected treasurer.
He entered the Assembly before independence at the elections on March 1, 1965. He was appointed Minister of Mines, Commerce and Industry on March 5, 1965, and became Minister of Home Affairs on April 5, 1966. After the elections in October 1969, when he was returned for Madinare, he was appointed Minister of Works and Communications. Nine months later he was switched to Minister of Agriculture, which he held for almost two years until he was transferred to diplomatic service.
