Career
He was born in Sirsi, Kanara. He was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha in 1996 from Kanara constituency (renamed Uttara Kannada in 2008) in Karnataka and re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998, 2004, 2009 and then again recently in 2014 from the same constituency.
