Career
Emigrated with his parents after the Bolshevik takeover, and settled in Berlin in the 1920s. After the Nazi take-over in Germany, moved to Britain. Joined the BBC as a linguist (specialist in Chinese), 1939.
Member of the Russian Service of the BBC from its beginning in 1946. Became widely known and was highly respected for his regular political commentaries in Russian for listeners in the Soviet Union. Wrote a biography of I. Erenburg, published in Britain.
