Crystallographer and mineralogist
BOLDYREV, Anatoliy was born on October 26, 1883.
Studied at Saint St. Petersburg Mining Institute.
Expelled from Mining Institute for revol activity and exiled to the Urals, where he engaged in geological research. From 1918 worked for Geological Committee, then for All-Union Geological Research Institute. From 1921 siumultaneously professor, Leningrad Mining Institute.
1925 proposed simplified method of determining the chemical composition of substances by measurement of their crystals on the basis of earlier work performed by Ye. South. Fyodorov; 1937-1939 helped compile volume 1 of Opredelitel' Itristallov (A Crystal Determinant). Also proposed new method of determining minerals by X-ray photography and established one of first Russian laboratories for this purpose.
1938-1939 supervised compilation of two-part Ryontgenometricheskiy opredelitel’ mineralov (Roentgenometric Determinant of Minerals). Also did research on deposits of iron, copper, tin, tungsten, bismuth and beryllium. This research led to the discovery of new tin deposits.
Helped to develop generally accepted crystallographic nomenclature.
