Teacher and writer; former Bishop and Professor, of Theology, Orthodox Clerical College, Cairo. 1st Chairman, Association of Theological Colls, in the Near East. 117th Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark of Egypt, the Near East and All Africa (Coptic Orthodox Church) 1971-1981, since 1985.
Removed from post by President Sadat and banished to desert monastery Wadi Natroun September 1981, released January 1985.
