Later on extended business to Damaraland in connection with A. West. Eriksson, where he imported cargoes direct to Walfish Bay, and opened up a trade in the interior of that country. Had his own vessel trading between Walfish Bay and Cape Town, and brought up produce in the way of ivory and feathers, in addition to which he was a large exporter of wool. In 18S3 started a brewery business, which in 1889 was floated into a limited liability company under the name of Ohlsson’s Cape Breweries, Limited., for which he was managing director for 18 years.

Was member of the Harbour Board representing the mercantile community for a period of eight years, and represented many other local institutions as director In 1907 retired from active business, and devotes his time now to farming his estates in the Swellendam and Ceres districts, where he has some of the finest shooting preserves in the country.
Foreign 20 years acted as ConsulGeneral for Sweden and Norway in South Africa. (Knighthood of the Order of the North Star.
