Anders Wikström was born on June 12, 1949. His early years coincided with the postwar decades, when the Swartling firm that later merged into Mannheimer Swartling had become one of the larger business law firms in Stockholm.
Wikström studied law at the University of Lund, where he received a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1973. Founded in 1666, Lund University is one of the oldest universities in Sweden, and its law programme formed the academic basis for his subsequent legal career.
His legal training was followed by practice in the courts and in private law firms, where he worked on company, finance, and property matters.
Wikström's early legal career was with Mannheimer & Zetterlöf, which Love Mannheimer and Tage Zetterlöf founded in Gothenburg in 1943 with the aim of developing associates into partners. He worked there as an associate from 1983 to 1988 and as a member from 1988 to 1990. During the 1980s the firm extended its foreign operations, opening offices in New York in 1983 and Frankfurt in 1989.
He also served as a judge of the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden, and the records describe him as an assistant justice of that court. The court was established in 1948 in Gothenburg as one of Sweden's six appellate courts, and it was created in part to relieve the workload of the older Göta Court of Appeal.
In 1990 he became a member of Mannheimer Swartling Advokatbyrå, a Stockholm firm formed that year through a merger between Mannheimer & Zetterlöf and Carl Swartling Advokatbyrå. The Swartling side of the merger traced its origins to a law firm founded in 1875 by Ossian Wallin, a court of appeal clerk. At its formation the combined firm employed about 90 lawyers, and it later grew to about 460 lawyers worldwide.
The records also note that he was resident at the firm's Gothenburg office, and the firm now operates from offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö in Sweden.
Wikström was a member of the Swedish Bar Association from 1986. The Swedish Bar Association is the professional body of Swedish advokater, the lawyers who represent clients in court and give legal advice.
