Career
In the beginning, he based his works on the lines of Kiyonobu Torii, a great master of those days, but later gradually developed a style of his own. His best paintings were those of girls in gay quarters. His disciples adhered to his style and also took delight in painting lone girls- Is considered one of the finest painters of his genre. During the years 1704-1711, he came to occupy an important position in his line of art.

Of an easy temperament, he got himself involved (1714) in the Ejima Case and was exiled to Oshima Island.
