André Erdos was born on May 18, 1941 in Algiers, Algeria. He is a son of Gusztáv and Márta (Czeichner) Erdos.

From 1959 to 1965 he attended the State Institute for International Relations in Moscow. From 1981 to 1984 he studied at the School of Pol Science(s) in Budapest.
From 1968 to 1972 he was an Attaché at the Embassy of Hungary in Rabat, Morocco. He was a member of delegations at Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, Geneva, Switzerland, Belgrade, Yugoslavia, from 1973 to 1978. From 1978 to 1983 he was the First secretary of Hungarian United Nations Mission in New York City.
From 1984 to 1986 he was a counsellor and advisor to minister at the Cabinet of Foreign Minister in Budapest. From 1986 to 1989 he was an Ambassador at the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, Vienna. From 1989 to 1990 he served as a director of department at the Foreign Ministry in Budapest. From 1992 to 1993 he was a Hungarian representative at the United Nations Security Council. He was a deputy state secretary at the Foreign Ministry in Budapest. From 1990 to 1994, 1997 to 2002 he was a permanent representative at the Hungarian United Nations Mission in New York City.
From 2002 to 2006 he was an Ambassador to France in Paris. Since 1999 he has been an honorary professor at the Budapest Institute of Graduate International and Diplomatic Studies.
On July 15, 1967 he married Katalin Pintér, They have a daughter, Anita.
