He attended Florida State University and New York University and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University in 2006.
Career
He currently stars as Doctor Algernon Edwards on the Cinemax drama The Knick. He portrayed politician and activist Andrew Young in the 2014 film Selma and sportswriter Wendell Smith in the 2013 film 42. His first stage performance was in Oliver at the Birmingham Summerfest Theatre at the age of eleven.
Since then, Holland has performed in several theatre productions.
In 2006, he portrayed three characters (Simon, Rex and Jesse) in the play Blue Door and Charles Isherwood of The New York Times gave him a positive review for his performance. In 2008, he played Eric in the play Wig Out! and Elegba/Marcus in The Brother/Sister Plays the following year.
Holland also appears with Clive Owen in the Cinemax original television drama The Knick.
