Graduated from the Frunze Military Academy, 1934, and from the Academy of the General Staff, 1939.
Red Army soldier in the Civil War. During World War II Chief-of-staff of the 22nd Army. Taken prisoner by the Germans.
Joined Vlasov’s army, the ROA, Deputy Chief-of-staff, 1945. One of the few who escaped SMERSH, May 1945-1947. Escaped from a US POW camp in Germany.
Lived in DP camps, 1945-1948. Wrote memoirs, published in the USA, about the Vlasov army -Armiia Obrechennykh. Active in Vlasov veterans’ organizations in Western Europe.
Moved to the USA, 1953, where he lectured on Soviet armed forces in the Pentagon.

The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
