Career
Joined the Bolshevik Party, 1912. Bolshevik organizer among sailors. Joined the Red Army, 1918.
Active participant in the Civil War as the head of a revolutionary sailors’ detachment. Took Kiev from the Rada (Ukrainian nationalist) forces. 1st Bolshevik commandant of Kiev, 1918.
Fought on the Dnepr and Volga against the Whites, 1919. Commander of armoured trains, 1920. Several party posts after the Civil War.
