Served as chil surgeon in South African War, 1900-1901 (medal, three clasps). Director, Wellcome Research Laboratories, Khartoum, 1902-1910. Cragg’s Research Prizeman in Tropical Medicine, 1905.

4th class Imperial Ottoman Order of the Osmanieh, 1907. F. R.C.P.E., F.R.I.P.H.; Director, Wellcome Research Laboratories, Gordon College Khartoum, since 1902; Medical Officer of Health, Khartoum, and Sanitary Adviser to the Sudan Medical Department.
