Career
He was first violinist of the Orford String Quartet from 1965 to 1995 and plays a J.B.Guadagnini violin crafted in Parma in 1770. Dawes has acted as a juror on a number of competitions including

The Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition
Chairman of the Banff String Quartet Competition from 1989–2004
Dawes has been a Professor of Music at various institutions including:
