(David Trevellyan is a Royal Navy intelligence operative w...)
David Trevellyan is a Royal Navy intelligence operative who usually works undercover, sometimes with the approval of his masters - and sometimes not. On a seemingly normal evening, he takes a lonely late-night walk between a restaurant and his New York City hotel. A familiar huddled shape in the mouth of an alley catches his eye - a homeless man has been shot to death. Trevellyan steps forward and a cop car arrives. A split second too late, Trevellyan realizes he's been set up.

Obliged to leave New York City in the aftermath of his previous mission, David Trevellyan is summoned to the British Consulate in Chicago. To the same office where, just a week before, his new handler was attacked and shot by a Royal Navy Intelligence operative gone bad. Assigned the job of finding the rogue agent and putting an end to his treacherous scheme, Trevellyan soon finds that once again, his only hopes of saving countless innocent lives lie not within the system, but in his own instincts and skills. Trust is an illusion - trust the wrong person, and it could get you killed.

(Trevellyan decides to keep himself in the hospital until ...)
Trevellyan decides to keep himself in the hospital until justice is served. His bosses don’t share his priorities, so - in trademark fashion - he takes matters into his own hands. The trap he sets slams shut with ruthless efficiency. But Trevellyan finds he’s caught more than a thief. He’s stumbled into a complex, multi-layered conspiracy designed to cause incalculable diplomatic damage. For the first time in his career, Trevellyan must operate in his home territory. He approaches the task with his customary vigor. But between criminals on one side and regulations on the other, he’s more isolated than ever. And as a virtual stranger in his own land, with the body-count rising and his time running out, he’s soon facing the soul-searching question: Is he doing more harm than good?

Alabama detective Cooper Devereaux makes no apologies for his luxe lifestyle or the way he does his job. Most cops haven’t lived the kind of life he had - starting out as an orphan, raised by a grizzled cop savior - and most don’t use his kind of high-risk tactics. But he may have met his match in fellow detective Jan Loflin, who’s fresh off a long undercover stint in Vice when they’re partnered on a case that will test them both beyond their direst nightmares.

Andrew Grant was born on May 8, 1968, in Birmingham, United Kingdom. His father was a civil servant. He has an older brother, a popular author, Lee Child.
Andrew Grant attended the St. Albans School in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. Then he studied drama and English literature at the University of Sheffield and received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Graduating from the university, Andrew Grant founded a theater-art company producing theater plays. The theater company successfully appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. But as the days progressed, he started finding it difficult to manage the theater group due to problems related to cash inflows. As a result, he left the theater and started working for a telecommunication company, where he spent almost fifteen years. Later, he left that too and decided to become a novelist. Being free from the corporate ties, in 2006 Grant decided that it’s time to start writing novels.
Grant writes mostly in the suspense and thriller genre. He started writing his debut novel Even in 2006, finishing it next year. A few months later he found an agent who loved his book, and in early 2008 he got his first contract. Even was published in 2009 and became an instant success. It also became the first book in the David Trevellyan series, which currently includes three books. The first novel introduces David Trevellyan as a spy and an undercover agent who is also a former Royal Navy Intelligence officer. His skills and undying attitude make him one of the best undercover agents of the world. David had also been a seasoned operative for British Intelligence and a man of honor.
The sequel to the first novel was published in the year 2010 and was titled Die Twice. In this novel, David Trevelyan is seen dedicated to leave New York City after finishing his previous mission. But, he is summoned by the British Consulate in Chicago, where he assigned a job of finding a rogue agent. He is ordered to work within the boundaries of the system, but he believes that he can do so only by relying on his own instincts and skills. He has to save the lives of countless innocent people by putting an end to all the treacherous schemes. The third novel in the series is More Harm Than Good (2012). While in the first two books David works in the United States, in the third David has to work at home, in London, which is a bit out of the main character’s comfort zone. This book is the first and so far only self-published book by Andrew Grant.
Later, Andrew Grant wrote the Detective Cooper Devereaux series. Cooper Devereaux is an Alabama cop, a rebel who loves to bend the rules every now and then so he can get the job done when the legal ways cannot. Due to his unorthodox ways, he has been suspended more than once from his job. In the first book, False Positive (2015), he is in fact once again suspended, but he gets the word that he is reinstated because he needs to work a case of a missing 7-years-old child who has been abducted. And the clock is ticking. In the second Cooper Devereaux book, we meet Cooper again, this time investigating an arsonist who is burning down empty schools. During one such case, the police found some burned bones, which means this time it’s murder. But the question is, are the murderer and the arsonist one and the same?
In False Witness (2018), police detective Cooper Devereaux is once again on the job, this time investigating a case involving several victims who were murdered on their 21st birthday, which gave the serial killer the name Birthday Killer. Grant also writes stand-alone novels. The first is Run (2014) which focuses on Marc Bowman, a genius IT consultant who was fired from his job, left by his wife and robbed pretty much at the same time, which makes you wonder, what is really going on here. The book is fast-paced, action-packed and intense, a trait with most of Andrew Grant’s books possess as well. His most recent books are Invisible (2019) and Too Close to Home (2020). These two books are the first in the Paul McGrath series.

Quotations:
"My role really is simply entertaining people and hopefully leaving them feeling better than they were when they started."
"One of the things about writing a book is that you go a very long time between the idea and a physical product. So that day when you’ve got one in your hand and you can see it in the store if you’re doing an event, it is just lovely to see the way that it transformed itself from this initial half-formed idea into something that hopefully people will buy and enjoy."
"Time is the scarcest resource for a novelist, so waiting to feel creative is a luxury I can’t afford. I just start in the morning and keep going until I hit the milestone I’ve mapped out for that day."
"You never get a second chance to make a first impression."
Andrew Grant usually writes in his room what was originally the maid’s room in his apartment in Chicago. But due to the amount of traveling he has to do, he often finds himself working on planes or in airport lounges, or any other place where he won’t get either wet or arrested.
He's an obsessively tidy person, so he guesses that tendency extends itself to his workspace. Other than tidiness, all he needs to get started in the morning is a giant pot of coffee. Followed by several more giant pots of coffee as the day (and sometimes, the night) progresses.
He likes to work for fifty minutes and then break for ten out of each hour - a habit his father passed on to him from his days in the army.
