Conducted school, in charge of 1st Presbyterian Church of Canton.
Editor Chinese Recorder, 1880-1884. Returned to the United States, 1884, raised over $100,000 for establishment of Christian college in China (Canton Christian College, later Lingan U.), 1888.
Returned to Canton, took care of college, 1888-1891. Spent his later years in Wooster, O.
